This is still the best for the selection of the hundreds of miles of trails in Yosemite, but on the way to take advantage (and knows how to use!) A detailed topographic map and compass and technicians go ahead and GPS but remember batteries are exhausted. Federal topographic maps are works of art in their own right. If the track descriptions are a necessity either photo-copy of the pages as others have suggested, or pick one of the smallest desert press guides that focus on the value of topographic maps of the area. A recent alternative to individual maps is the CD of the status of National Geographic paths illustrated and gives the entire state of California on the team in detail with zoom, annotate: then print what you need. In any case, to keep secure any better than the map and compass (altimeter is good also in the Sierra), although the books are great for armchair dreaming and making choices and all wildlife products press let me hear the gravel crunching under my boots granite like no other. We try to use this book to help guide our journey and find some hiking during our first time to Yosemite. Although the book is a wealth of knowledge and information (if difficult to read in parts), was overwhelming for us to know what to do and what to keep for our next trip – we have to plan to take! More details about what is worthwhile and what is not, and more maps of the trails would be very valuable. Even a general base map of Yosemite Valley and Tioga pass would have made a big difference. For example, the map given by the park into Yosemite is excellent. Perhaps this book more valuable as our regular visitors and hikers in the park, but if you’re planning your first trip, I would start with a different book – or better yet, follow the advice of the locals and previous visitors. Some obvious suggestions: Glacier Point, Mirror Lake (great view of Half Dome), Bridalveil Falls, somewhere in Tioga Pass (for example, the May Lake, Tenaya Lake, Tuolumne Meadows), Mariposa Grove. Have fun in Yosemite! Rating: 2 / 5
I was planning a solo backpacking trip Yosemite.Llamé and talked to a guard, asking for advice. The only advice I received was to read the Natural-History Guide to Yosemite and its trails, for Schaffer. The guard said, “we are all still use it as the definitive guide – although it was printed in the ’70 ‘s.” He was right. It is a complete revision of the trails. If you are interested in obtaining a deeper understanding of where you are going to Yosemite, this book is worth the dinero.Calificación: 4 / 5
A detailed personal account Yosemite hiking trails that not only describes the beautiful scenery, but also tells you how Yosemite evolved for thousands of years. It says right past history of Yosemite to the flora and FONA. Schaffer even included a distance table and the difficulty of each of the trails and closed a road map. This book will give any first time visitor a great idea of what Yosemite has to offer! Rating: 5 / 5
