Are the sequoia national parks in california closing?

By acarmen1 • May 2nd, 2010

I’m taking a trip there this summer, and I’ve heard rumors that the parks are closed. Could this really happen?

I haven’t seen the entire list they are suggesting closing, but of the parks I have seen referenced, Sequoia is not one of them. I would think it would be mentioned if it were on the list, but don’t quote me.

Other parks mentioned:
Lake Tahoe’s Emerald Bay, Will Rogers’ Southern California ranch and Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Fort Ross State Historic Park, the southernmost Russian settlement in North America; Bodie State Historic Park, one of the best-preserved Old West ghost towns; and Big Basin Redwoods, the oldest state park.

Only State Parks will possibly be closing, and even that will probably happen after the summer travel season. This has to do with California’s state budget mess.

Sequoia National Park is a National Park, not a State Park, so they will be unaffected by the park closures (and may possibly get more visitors when state parks are closed). National Parks and Regional/County/City Parks are not State Parks, so they will not close.

You can’t close ant state or national park without the consent of the people.

Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
